Collection: JACKIE PAPER
Reimagining sculptures of old, with ideas of new.
Jackie Paper's body of work visits the concept of reimagining sculptures of old, with ideas of new. Existing statues, vases or sculptures are primed and painted in a way that is jarring to the viewer with the aim to provide pause, and maybe (and hopefully) introspection.
Jackie has long been fascinated between the changing historical narratives of the ‘big stuff’ - racism, sexism, gender identity and corporate greed and commercialism.
Re-using old statues and sculptures speaks to their concern for environment and sustainable ways to approach creating art, but doing so in a gentler way.
Jackie encourages the viewer to look deeper to possibly dig deeper if confronted by any of the messaging in their work. The message is not intended to be aggressive, rather thoughtful in approach.
